The Government is launching this year's campaign of sensiblització and control of illegal street sales

With the message 'Say no', the Government warns citizens and tourists of the unauthorized practice, and reports of negative effects of illegal sales in the whole of the Catalan economy.

· The Department of Enterprise and Employment will distribute a total of 200,000 leaflets and 15,000 posters in six languages ​​in Catalan municipalities with greater tourist.

· The Government also points out that both the sale and purchase of goods and services are punishable conduct. According to the Directorate General of Police, the Catalan police in 2011 were around 700 speeches throughout Catalonia and the police were more than 120,000 products to be sold illegally.

With the slogan "Say no" Government takes up this June, the information campaign and control the illegal sale on the street started last summer. Coinciding with the start of the tourist season, the Department of Enterprise and Employment, through the Department of Commerce, distributed leaflets and posters to raise public awareness about the negative effects that the illegal sale occurs throughout the Catalan economy. The Law on Promotion of Economic Activity establishes the possibility of punishing both sellers and buyers of these products and services.

The campaign 'Say no' count the coordinated action of the Department of Trade Directorate-General of Police. Coinciding with the tourist season will be distributed in a first phase, a total of 200,000 leaflets and 15,000 posters printed in six languages ​​(Catalan, Spanish, English, French, German and Italian) in most tourist towns, mainly in coastal destinations . The distribution will be made through the Tourist Office of the Government of Catalonia, local authorities and business organizations.

Why say no?

The media campaign warns of negative effects of illegal sales to the company and explained why we should avoid the purchase of these products and services (risk to health and safety of persons, violations workers' rights, damage to the industry and commerce, tax fraud, public use of public space).

Intensification of control activities

The Law on Promotion of Commercial Activity (Law 9/2011), which entered into force on December 31, introduced an amendment to trade legislation (Legislative Decree 1/1993) that allows both vendors as responsible buyers these products and services. In this regard, the Department of Commerce has informed the Catalan city of this new legal instrument level, in relation to the disciplinary powers of local authorities and legal advice.

The 'pirate' generates a turnover of over one billion euros per year and estimated they spent more than 2,500 people.
