Barna Centre, placed in the Gothic Quarter, is the most traditional commercial and pedestrian area in our city. An exceptional outdoor shopping centre, representative of the history and entrepreneurial capacities of Barcelona, it offers its customers the opportunity to enjoy a stroll in a unique cultural patrimony and, at the same time, to shop in its stores (often unique) with a professional and personalized assistance.
With easy access by public transport, both on the ground and underground, with over 8.000 parking spaces strategically placed at the zone’s entry points, this urban shopping centre welcomes more than 51 million annual visits and includes over a thousand traders spread in a business area of 60.181 square meters.
Barna Centre was born in 1973, created by a group of traders and businessmen of the Gothic Quarter, who intended to promote the historical Quarter of the city as a privileged area for commercial activity. Years later, it gathered momentum by including the Associations of Traders of the Gothic Quarter under a common organization. In November of 1989 the Federation of Associations of Barna Centre was constituted.
Today, with more than 35 years of history, Barna Centre is a dynamic entity that lives to its vocation to serve and to invigorate the historical Quarter through Associations and the implication of the stores.
Barna Centre also chairs the Confederation of Historic Spanish (COCAHI), an entity that was born in Bilbao in 1991 with the aim of establishing common strategies for the development of the historic centers of cities and towns of the Spanish State. Currently, traders are 31 associations throughout the state with the legitimate aspiration to enhance business and the modernization of infrastructure and services in their respective urban areas.
