This gallery was founded 145 years ago, in 1877, after the merchant Joan Parés decided to convert his shop selling engravings, prints, frames and artistic materials into a space for art.
It was a pioneer and emerged at a time of cultural effervescence in Barcelona, which helped it become a benchmark in the market. Renowned artists such as Francesc Gimeno, Isidre Nonell and Joaquin Sorolla have exhibited in its rooms and it was the first gallery where Picasso exhibited.
A gallery that has been able to maintain itself over time and, thanks to this, has achieved a wide collection, made up of works by contemporary artists as well as other more classic ones. With Joan Anton Maragall at the helm, it seeks to continue being a benchmark in the world of art. The Hall annually exhibits 27 current artists who respond to a wide variety of proposals.
