Plaça de Sant Josep Oriol

Another emblematic point of inspiration in the Gothic Quarter is this square, on the side of the Basilica de Santa Maria del Pi. A place where local painters have been settling in for decades to paint and sell paintings, especially on weekends. There are also historic shops such as Bar del Pi, medieval buildings such as the headquarters of the Institut Agrícola Català de Sant Isidre, sculptures such as that of Sant Josep Oriol himself on a facade... or that of Àngel Guimerà, a prominent Catalan theater author from the beginning of the 20th century. The sculpture presides the central elevation - where there used to be a cemetery, by the way. Look at the buildings facing the square, if necessary in their lateral facades, to find what type of business was the one through which Guimerà entrà al món de les lletres… ("Guimerà entered the world of letters...")
