The sweetest and most artistic street in Barcelona.

Along the 129 meters of this endearing street, pedestrian since 1959 and the first in Barcelona to found its neighborhood and business association in 1947, we find ceramic mosaics that explain us about its history and the people who lived here like the writer Àngel Guimerà.

It is popularly known as the Chocolate street because since the 17th century different chocolate shops began to be installed and it become a tradition to enjoy broken chocolate.

It is also a street marked by art since it has the oldest active art room in the city, the Sala Parés. This gallery has attracted artists and art lovers since 1840 and it was, at the end of the 19th century, the base of operations for the great modernist painters, such as Santiago Rusiñol and Ramón Casas. It was also in this room where Picasso exhibited his work for the first time. A decade later it also served as a platform for the best postmodernist painters: Isidre Nonell, Joaquim Mir, Marià Pidelaserra and Brias. Those names gave way to others that continue to be part of the cultural vanguard of the city.
