Over time, these two streets, which could well be considered one, have had different names depending on the artisans or the institutions to which homage was paid. Although the name immediately prior to the current one was Baixada de la Presó, due to its proximity to the royal prison, it was also a street for hosiery, grocers, apothecaries and, above all, booksellers.
The Diario de Barcelona was born here, at number 22, also known as El Brusi. Founded by Eulàlia Ferrer, it was the first newspaper from Barcelona and also one of the oldest in Europe. Commercially, we find the Subirà cerería, the oldest wax-chandler's shop in Barcelona, Conesa Entrepans, the first place serving “frankfurts” in Barcelona or the Brusi Bar, where Mrs. Montserrat Sabadell has been serving the best tripe for 50 years!
