It is one of the oldest businesses in Barcelona, with more than 250 years. Its beginnings date back to 1761 and over the years it has been in the hands of three families: the Galí, the Prats and the Subirá.
Its current owners, the Subirá family, started running the candle shop due to the death of the Prats brothers in the Civil War. Paulí Subirà, a master waxworker, left his shop in Vic behind and decided to move to Barcelona with his 7 children, taking on the challenge of recovering this business in the post-war period.
They have been able to overcome many bumps in the road, from a shortage of raw materials, a large fire and some threats of expropriation, but they not only preserve the profession, but also its quirky and elegant pre-modernist decoration.
From the third generation of Subirá we find Pilar, the person in charge right now, who assumes her task with the conviction that it is not only a business but living history and therefore of all barcelonians.
