Between the 11th and 15th centuries, the Call of Barcelona was the neighborhood with the largest Jewish community in the Crown of Aragon. It was a delimited enclosure containing up to five synagogues, ritual baths and other constructions linked to Jewish culture, as well as prosperous commercial businesses. The Call Major was delimited by the streets of Call (which was the main entrance at its confluence with Sant Jaume square), Banys Nous, Sant Sever and Sant Domènec del Call, Baixada de Santa Eulàlia, Marlet, Manuel Ribé square and finally, Sant Honorat street.
In its contemporary commercial history, the Call strett has stood out for being the space that gave rise to stores so deeply rooted in the Barcelona imaginary, such as the company Santiveri, the first laboratory and store of natural products in the Spanish state, the centenary costume jewelery Casa Fills de M Sala, the specialized silverware El Centro de la Miniatura or the old Casa Sala, a leading store selling accessories for costume jewelery.
