The biggest party of the Pi district, which pays homage in Sant Josep Oriol (which was born and lived in the Ciutat Vella the second half of the seventeenth century) will be held from 16 to 24 March to the squares and streets
that surround the basilica of Santa Maria del Pi.
It is a party recovered since 1995 when the Association of Friends of the Giants of Pi and the Associations of merchants and neighbors of the neighborhood decided to remember the figure of the saint with a set of activities of popular culture, diverse and for all ages.
Many acts are performed by the Gigantes del Pi, one of the oldest in Catalonia!
Currently it is a party that is gaining followers throughout the city and attracts families interested in traditional Catalan culture.
During the days of festivity the legend of the saint and robberies with chocolate coins are staged at the shops by the Catalan bandit Perot Rocaguinarda, who also had
been neighbor of the neighborhood.
Among the activities, the night parade of the Gigantes and Gegantons del Pi and the pasarela of the Oriols stand out. It is essential to enjoy the encounter of giants, tadpoles and Sunday bestiary, which closes a whole weekend of celebrations with a final dance.
