The mayor of Barcelona, Xavier Trias, inaugurated the rehabilitation of the thermometer, which is an icon of the city. During the ceremony, the mayor, along with the president of Òptics Cottet, Jorge Cottet, and Javier Cottet, CEO of the company and president of Barna Centre, unveiled a plaque naming the thermometer "Petit paisatge de Barcelona", the first distinction of this kind granted by the IMPU.
The thermometer, weighing two tons and 22 meters long, was installed in 1955 by Rolando Cottet, the grandfather of current director of the optics, and became operational on February 1956.
In 2009 the thermometer stopped working and began his rehabilitation, which has carried out by the IMPUof the City Council and the owner Cottet Optical and renovation has involved technical criteria for energy efficiency and sustainability of the thermometer .
From day 6, the thermometer Can Cottet and again indicates the temperature of the Avenida Portal de l'Àngel.
