Markets' Market on Avinguda de la Catedral

September 30th. 2011

The big Mediterranean produce fair returns to Barcelona this autumn from 21 to 23 October.
The success of last year's first fair, which drew in large numbers of visitors, has persuaded both the Municipal Institute of Markets and the Generalitat to repeat the experience this year. A food event that is becoming a showcase for Catalan producers and direct distributors to markets. A showcase with a great range of ideas for promoting local produce and commerce aimed at boosting the country's economy.
The "Mercat de Mercats" (Markets' Market) is conceived as a public space for leisure and education, where the principal aim is to highlight the value of Barcelona's markets and the quality of the produce they sell as well as the country's market-trade linked agricultural and craft produce.
It is also a festive way of introducing a series of market values to the public. They provide quality, sustainable produce associated with healthy eating and the Mediterranean diet through professional with expertise in these products. They are a meeting place where our culinary culture can be passed on.
Another aim is to link the market with the country's farmers and exhibitors from other Mediterranean cities, like at last year's fair.
The food world will also be represented there, in areas set aside for tasting tapas (snacks) made from typical national produce, while other areas will offer the public various activities designed to show how they can use the market produce they buy in the kitchen.
The new Markets' Market will be held at the same place as last year, on Avinguda de la Catedral and Avinguda de Francesc Cambó.
