Some streets in Ciutat Vella, especially in the narrow alleyways of the Gòtic and the Born area, will keep the strings of lights up until March 31.
The Deputy Mayor for Security, Albert Batlle, has implemented this initiative with the aim of maintaining this network of illuminated streets in a capillary fashion, seeking a balance between economic viability and the safety of residents, shopkeepers, and tourists.
The initiative has not only a preventive objective, but also a cultural and economic one. According to Batlle, the lighting will boost commercial, social, and cultural activity in the most hidden corners of the old neighborhood, ensuring that these streets regain vitality even during the hours of lowest light.
The City Council plans to apply the measure immediately and make it a permanent tool during the winter months in the future, extending the lighting from the last weekend of October to the last weekend of March. In this way, the city aims to transform Christmas lighting into a useful urban resource for prevention and safe mobility.
